Lindabeth Binkley,
oboe

Oboist Lindabeth Binkley's performances have been lauded by critics as a "classic triumph of lightness, delicacy, and expressiveness." As Professor of Oboe at Central Michigan University, she brings a wealth of orchestral experience, having served as Principal Oboist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra (1998-2009) and held positions with the Colorado Symphony, Arizona Opera, and Central City Opera.

Currently Principal Oboist of both the Flint Symphony Orchestra and the prestigious Sunriver Music Festival in Bend, Oregon, Dr. Binkley maintains an active orchestral career throughout Michigan, performing with ensembles including the Ann Arbor Symphony, Lansing Symphony, and Lexington Bach Festival.

A passionate chamber musician, Dr. Binkley performs regularly with the Powers Woodwind Quintet, featured on their 2017 Centaur Records release, "Hidden Gems" (CEN 3528). Her commitment to diverse voices in classical music led her to co-found Limitless Collective, an ensemble of professional female musicians dedicated to showcasing works by emerging composers and underrepresented voices, including women, people of color, and LGBTQ artists. Her recent recording project, "From Earth & Sky: Music of Jenni Brandon" (BGS 545) for Blue Griffin Records, further demonstrates her dedication to expanding the oboe repertoire.

Dr. Binkley frequently appears as a soloist at International Double Reed Society Conferences and as a guest artist at universities across the United States. Her impact as an educator is evident in her students' successes, with many earning places at prestigious summer programs including the Rocky Ridge Music Center, Vianden International Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, Idyllwild Arts Academy, and the Dacoda Skidmore Chamber Music Institute. Her students have continued their studies at renowned graduate programs including the University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Shanghai Orchestra Academy, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Indiana University-Bloomington, Arizona State University, and Florida State University.

Together with Professor MaryBeth Minnis, she hosts an annual summer reed making camp for young double reed players at Central Michigan University's School of Music. Her educational influence extends to major music conferences, where she regularly presents at events such as the Michigan Music Conference, Texas Music Educators Association Conference, and the Annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

A Michigan native, Dr. Binkley's own educational journey includes degrees from Central Michigan University, The University of Colorado at Boulder, and the University of Arizona, where she studied with distinguished teachers Roger Rehm, Peter Cooper, and Dr. Neil Tatman. She performs on a Royal 125 oboe by F. Lorée of Paris.
